Short version: Selkie Beats doesn't collect anything, doesn't send anything anywhere and doesn't record your audio. The one thing it keeps is the Kit you teach it, on your device. I make the plugin on my own and don't run a service behind it.

What the plugin does with your microphone

Beats is an AUv3 plugin. It doesn't open the microphone itself; the Host you load it in (Loopy Pro, AUM and so on) does, and hands the audio to Beats on the channel you put it on. Beats listens to that audio for Hits, sends each one out as a MIDI drum Note, and passes the audio on if you've set Voice Through above zero. It never records or stores audio. Once a buffer has been looked at, it's gone.

The small app that comes with the plugin, the one you see if you open Selkie Beats from your home screen, asks for the microphone directly, because it lets you use Beats without a Host. It works the same way: it listens, sends Notes as MIDI to whatever you point it at and keeps no audio. It makes no sound of its own.

Network

None. Neither the plugin nor the app makes any network request. There's no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no update check. If it ever needs a network for something, this page will say so first.

What's stored

Your settings (Gate, Listening, Velocity, the Note for each Sound and the rest) are saved by your Host as part of its project or preset, the way it saves every other plugin's.

The Kit is kept on your device, outside any project, so every copy of Beats in a Host shares it. Each Example you teach is kept as its Shape: eight numbers describing how a Hit's energy falls across the frequencies and how bright it is. That's not a recording, and the sound can't be rebuilt from it. Starter Kit in the Kit panel deletes what you taught.

The view settings under the gear and the app's MIDI source ID live in the app's own settings on your device, and nowhere else.

Tracking and third parties

There's no tracking and no third-party code that talks to anyone.

Children

Nothing about Beats is aimed at children in particular, and since it collects nothing, it collects nothing from them either.

Changes

If any of this changes, the date at the top changes and the change is described here.
